(Georgetown, Del) - A driver that ran a stop sign, caused a fatal crash west of Georgetown. Police say around 6:15 pm Friday night, November 3, 2017, Jesser Figueroa, 50 of Georgetown, was driving southbound on Warrington Road, approaching the intersection of County Seat Highway. Fiqueroa failed to stop and the stop sign, and collided with a pickup driven by John H. Scott Jr., 48 of Georgetown, traveling westbound on County Seat Highway approaching the same intersection. A second pickup was behind the first, Ruben Lourenco, 62 of Ellendale.
Scott Jr. swerved to the left, but hit the front of the car. The first pickup rotated counter-clockwise as it was forced into oncoming traffic directly in the path of the second truck.
Following the crash, Figueroa fled on foot. He was later located and taken into custody without incident after he was located by the Delaware State Police Helicopter hiding in ditch several hundred yards away from the collision.
Figueroa was charged with Second Degree Vehicular Homicide, Second Degree Vehicular Assault, driving under the Influence of Alcohol, Leaving the Scene of a fatal motor vehicle collision, Driving without a valid license, Failure to Report, Failure to Stop at Stop Sign. He's being held at Sussex Correctional Institution in default of a $18,300.00 Cash Bond.
John H. Scott Jr., who was not properly restrained, was pronounced deceased at the scene from injuries sustained in this collision.
Ruben V. Lourenco, who was properly restrained, was taken to an area hospital where he was admitted with minor injuries.
County Seat Highway was closed for approximately 4 ½ hours while the crash was investigated and cleared.
