UPDATED: Selbyville Fire Department Member Killed While Responding to a Crash

SELBYVILLE, Del - The Selbyville Volunteer Fire Department and members of the community are mourning the loss of Fire Police Officer Laura Madara who was killed while giving aid to people involved in a car crash.

Delaware State Police say on April 9 around 1 p.m, a yellow 2006 Ford F-250 Selbyville Fire Police truck was on Polly Branch Road with its emergency equipment activated. Police say the truck was used for traffic control while on scene of another crash. 

Troopers say as the scene cleared, the 79-year-old driver of the truck reversed. Police say a woman--identified as Laura Madara by the Selbyville Fire Department--was standing behind the truck when she was struck and killed.

Selbyville firefighters say Madara was a fire police officer, assisting with traffic control during fire calls, and also served as President of the Ladies Auxiliary. 

The Selbyville Fire Department is asking for people to extend their prayers to the Madara family at this time, and that more information will be shared as it becomes available. The department also says that Delaware State Police is investigating this incident, we will provide more details as they come available.
