Wags Witches and Warlocks Return to Bethany Beach to Raise Money for Pets

BETHANY BEACH, Del. - A costume parade will head down the Bethany Beach Boardwalk Saturday. Not to trick you, those in it will be looking for their treats on four legs instead of two. The annual Wags, Witches and Warlocks fundraiser is back, once again raising money for the Brandywine Valley SPCA

Dressed from head to paw as festive figures and your favorite super heroes, adoptable dogs will parade down the boardwalk.

"It starts on the boardwalk and it comes down Garfield Parkway and loops around Atlantic Avenue and comes back up Garfield Parkway and the event will be lead by the Indian River High School Band this year," says Co-Chair Marianne Gold.

What was started by realtors about ten years ago is now the annual Wags Witches and Warlocks fundraiser held by the Leslie Kopp Group for BVSPCA.

"We've raised over $12,000 for the capital campaign through our sponsorships and our goal is to raise $20,000 through the registrations," Gold says.

"That's going towards our capital campaign that we are running right now for a new New Castle Campus for us," says BVSPCA Communications Manager Arynn Brucie.

There will be 7 to 10 dogs in Saturday's parade, but people can bring their dogs to be a part of it too. It's just $5 to enter for one person and $25 for a whole family.

BVSPCA hopes all of the pups they take to the parade will find their forever homes as part of the Pumpkin Spice Pick Your Price Adoption Special, which the cats back at the shelter qualify for too.

"Any large adult dog a year over or 40 pounds or over or any cat 6 months plus, like Tiny, qualify for that special and if you can't make it out to that event, you can't make it out to the beach on Saturday, all name your price fees go through the 31st." Registration for the event opens at 9 a.m. Saturday. The parade starts at 10 and is followed by crafts, face painting and trick or treating.
