Wanted Sex Offender arrested for theft, failing to register

(Rehoboth Beach, Del) - A man arrested for theft was also a wanted sex offender. Kevin T. Boyer, 43, of Rehoboth was arrested Wednesday afternoon, August 15, 2018, for a theft in July while employed at a local restaurant and officers discovered that his sex offender registry information had not been properly updated.

He reportedly stole cash from an unattended wallet. Police utilized video to identify Boyer, a fellow employee, as responsible for the theft. Boyer was not present at the time of the investigation; therefore, a warrant was issued for his arrest.

On August 15th, 2018, when Boyer showed up for a separate scheduled court appearance he was taken into custody. During the investigation, officers learned that Boyer's employment at the Greene Turtle had been terminated and he had obtained employment elsewhere. Boyer, a Tier 2 registered sex offender, failed to update his employment information with the Delaware Sex Offender Central Registry within 3 days per Delaware state law.

Boyer was arrested and charged with 1 count of failure to re-register as a sex offender, a felony, and 1 count of misdemeanor theft under $1500.

Boyer was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution in default of $3000.00 secured bail.
