Worcester County Clerk Faces Jail Time for Theft

(SNOW HILL, Md.)- An accounting clerk with Worcester County will serve prison time for stealing about $7,000 from the county.

According to the assistant state's attorney, Katherine Fowler, of Salisbury, cooked the books to cover up her tracks. They say she illegally accessed computers, generated false reports, and she never showed any remorse.

Her job involved collecting real estate taxes. She was terminated July 22, 2014, during a disciplinary hearing with the Worcester County Commissioners.

Fowler stole $7,116.75 between Sept. 27, 2013 and June 4, 2014, according to a court document. She reportedly stole $1,335.33 on Sept. 27, 2013, $2,124.52 on Nov. 5, 2013, $1,262.86 on Jan. 24, $2,063.33 on Feb. 7, $200 on Feb. 21 and $130.71 on March 10 while working in the Treasurer's Office.

She will sit behind bars for four years and serve two years of probation.
