Delaware State University Hall Of Famer Raises Money For Football Program With 130 Mile Bike Ride During Anniversary Year

DELMARVA- Football players are used to going as much as 100 yards on a play in a game but 130 miles is a much different animal.

Robert Presbury and his team learned that Friday during a bike ride that helped support Delaware State Football. He says he wanted to give back to the program that gave him so much.

"Just sitting at home, it hit me," Presbury said. "I said why don’t I get 130 guys together and collect 130 dollars based off we are going into 130th year anniversary and as soon as I called Coach Collick he was on board."

Former DSU Football Coach Bill Collick was in the passenger seat of a police escort the entire ride. He says Presbury’s fundraiser is a prime example of a giving back to a university that gives so much to its students.

"It’s been and given so much for so many," Collick said. "I think all of us would say where would we be without Delaware State. Certainly there are some real questions and this place has done it for a long, long time."

The bikers were taking breaks along their journey. They averaged about 20-21 miles per hour on their trip. Delaware State Police and local police escorted them along the way.

Three of Presbury’s friends including Anthony Copeland of Norfolk from Kings Rule Together Cycling wanted to hop on for the ride and think highly of Presbury for wanting to support his HBCU.

"I’ve been riding for a while," Copeland said. "It’s time for me to test and see what I got. He needed a backing and you know KRT is Kings Rule Together and he needed our backing. So I was like yeah I’m there for you."

A touchdown is worth six points but this effort is hall of fame worthy all ahead of a big homecoming weekend for the Hornets.
