Monday: The City of Lewes exceeded its legal services budget by hundreds of thousands of dollars this year. According to a February budget meeting, the city spent about $420,000 on legal services despite budgeting $300,000. The mayor said an outside attorney will review the city's legal spending at no cost and provide recommendations to help control future expenses.
Tuesday: A speed camera along Route 1 south of Cave Neck Road continues to generate thousands of speeding citations. The Delaware Department of Transportation said nearly 25,000 drivers received tickets during the camera's first month of enforcement after it was activated in November. From mid-November through mid-July, more than 54,000 speeding violations were issued.
Wednesday: Delaware health officials reported an increase in the state's measles outbreak. The number of confirmed cases rose from 13 to 20, with all reported cases located in Kent County.
Thursday: Delaware State Police announced the arrest of a 23-year-old dance instructor accused of sexually abusing two teenage students. Investigators identified the suspect as Emily Pryor Albino, who taught at X-Treme Dance Studio in Laurel. Police said the charges extend beyond sexual abuse.
Friday: A proposed annual fee could provide additional funding for the Milton Fire Department. If approved, the fee would appear on property owners' tax bills and replace the town's annual donation of about $16,000 to the department. The proposal would increase the department's annual funding to at least $22,000.
