MLFORD, Del. - Bayhealth has announced that Dr. Lawrence D. Ward, an internal medicine physician and vice president of Physician Services and Clinical Integration, has received the Mastership designation from the American College of Physicians.

According to Bayhealth, Dr. Ward is the only physician at the organization, and one of just 10 from Delaware, to receive the recognition since it was first awarded in 1923.

The ACP describes Mastership as an honor granted to physicians who have demonstrated integrity, held positions of honor, and achieved eminence in medical practice, leadership, or research. According to the organization, recipients are selected for significant accomplishments in science or the art of medicine.

Dr. Ward was formally inducted at the ACP’s annual meeting, which was recently held in New Orleans, according to Bayhealth.

“I am honored to receive this national recognition by the American College of Physicians,” Dr. Ward said in a statement provided by Bayhealth. “This recognition is something that, as a younger physician, you can only hope to be worthy of earning. It celebrates the hard work and dedication of people in medicine. I am invigorated by this honor and will continue my work in improving the health and well-being of Bayhealth patients and the surrounding community.”

According to Bayhealth, Dr. Ward leads the Medical Group and Population Health teams, focusing on improving care quality and supporting prevention efforts that help communities stay healthier.

Dr. Ward earned his medical degree from Jefferson Medical College and a Master of Public Health from George Washington University. The health system also noted he has more than 20 years of clinical and teaching experience in Philadelphia, where he received multiple Top Doctor honors and teaching awards.
