DELAWARE - Bayhealth is offering automated breast ultrasounds for women with dense breasts. Bayhealth said it is now the first hospital in the state of Delaware to offer this technology.
The Invenia Automated Breast Ultrasound is an FDA-approved technology used alongside a mammography to screen for breast cancer.
The ABUS technology is available by clinician referral at Bayhealth Women’s Imaging Centers in Dover and Milford. Bayhealth said the technology is clinically proven to increase cancer detection by 35.7 percent.
"We are excited to add the ABUS to our comprehensive breast cancer screening program," said Lead Interpreting Breast Radiologist Daniel Wood, "We anticipate improving detection for small cancers that cannot be seen on a mammogram alone in these women."
Wood recommends women should get regular mammograms and talk to their doctor about their specific risk levels.
