Bayhealth@Home

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Bayhealth@Home is an easy way to receive care from anywhere and visits usually average about ten to fifteen minutes.

The platform was created at a crucial time where emergency rooms are overwhelmed with COVID and non-COVID patients.

Bayhealth Chief Medical Information Officer Dr. Jonathan Kaufmann says that this should only be used in non-emergency situations.

"If you feel like you can wait or you have mild symptoms or you’re just not sure and want someone to give you some advice, this would be an option for you," Dr. Kaufmann said. "So there’s not really hard or fast rules on to seek in-person care."

Usually a visit is $64 on Bayhealth@Home, but that first visit can be free. Visit https://www.bayhealth.org/virtual-urgent-care and get to the payment screen and put in the code "BETTERSOONER" in order to receive that first free visit.

While Bayhealth is committed to serving the community, the hope is that this medical platform will have less people coming to the hospital for urgent care matters. Across the street at Nemours Children's Health, they have been working with patients virtually for some time now during the pandemic and Telehealth Administrator Susan Voltz says telehealth has only grown over the past six months.

We were sort of around 1,000 visits per month and that has jumped to about 1,500 visits," Voltz said. "And so, definitely a lot of volume out there and a lot of patients willing to see their providers on telehealth."

In order to relieve more pressure from the hospitals, Delaware Governor John Carney announced Tuesday opportunities for more support during this COVID crisis including medical students and average people.

"We do need additional help," Carney said. "Delaware hospitals needed your help if you’re retired or former healthcare worker. Please contact the hospital association, de.org/hospitalhelp."
