MILTON, Del. — The Delaware Department of Environmental Management is calling for public feedback on a cleanup proposal for the Broadkiln Sportsmans Club site, historically used as a shooting range. Located near the intersection of Deep Branch Road and Coastal Highway in Milton, the site has been identified for environmental remediation due to soil contamination.
The cleanup strategy involves excavating soils to lower concentrations of contaminants, particularly lead. This step is essential in addressing the environmental impacts of the site's past operations.
As part of the remediation process, an environmental covenant will be placed on the property. This restriction is set to limit the site's use to non-residential purposes and impose limits on groundwater withdrawal, ensuring the site's future use aligns with environmental safety standards.
Detailed information about the cleanup plan is available to the public at den.dnrec.delaware.gov/. Residents, environmental advocates, and other interested parties are encouraged to review the proposal and submit their comments.
The deadline for public comments is January 9, 2024. John Costa, the Project Manager, is available for additional information and can be contacted at (302) 395-2600 or via email at RS_Public_Comments@delaware.gov.
