DELAWARE - Communities across Delaware are marking Juneteenth with a variety of events that highlight Black history and culture. From cruises to parades, markets to food trucks, here’s a look at how to join the celebrations throughout Sussex and Kent counties.
Dover
June 21: 12 p.m. to 7 p.m.
This celebration in Dover begins with a noon parade leading to Legislative Mall, where visitors will find live music, performers, food trucks, a fashion show and family activities. Organizers said the event is designed to celebrate freedom while showcasing the culture and contributions of Black Delawareans. This event is free and will take place at 410 Legislative Avenue (The Green).
Milford
June 19: 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.
Milford will have its annual Juneteenth celebration in Bicentennial Park. Organizers describe the event as a "celebration of culture and freedom." The event will have food, live music and games.
Georgetown
June 21: 10 a.m.
A parade kicks off the festivities in downtown Georgetown, followed by food vendors, entertainment and games for all ages. The event will take place at 316 S. Railroad Avenue.
Lewes
June 14: 7 p.m. to 9 p.m.
The celebration kicks off on the water with a party cruise featuring cocktails, mocktails and sunset views. Food will be prepared by Chef Jazzy T of "A Taste of Jazz." Guests are encouraged to wear their boots and dance to music by a live DJ. The cruise will take off from the Lewes Ferry Terminal, 43 Cape Henlopen Drive. Tickets are available online.
West Rehoboth
June 19: 4 to 9 p.m.
The West Side Creative Market will feature 21 local Black, Brown and African American-owned businesses. Music will be curated by DJ Blackout. From 5:30 p.m. to 7 p.m. there will be speakers and historical presentations. The West Rehoboth Legacy Mural also offers an opportunity to explore the history of the area. The market is located at 19826 Central Avenue. This is a free event and parking is available on Church Street.
Each event offers a chance to commemorate Juneteenth and honor African American history while enjoying music, food and community spirit.
