DELAWARE -A year-long celebration of the founding anniversaries of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps kicked off June 8. Organizers announced that Delaware is taking part of the Military 250 initiative.

"The state of Delaware reaffirms dedication to honoring veterans, strengthening resources for military families, and fostering a culture of service that encourages all citizens to contribute to the well being of their communities and country," Governor Matt Meyer (D) said in a proclamation recognizing the week.

The U.S. Army was established on June 14, 1775, the Navy on Oct. 13, 1775 and Marine Corps on Nov. 10 1775.

Military 250 is promoted by We the Veterans. The organization claims to represent over 16 million veterans and family members.
