GEORGETOWN, Del. — On Christmas Day, dozens of volunteers got into their cars to deliver bags filled with goods to senior citizens across Sussex County.
CHEER, a non-profit organization, has seven activity centers to help senior citizens with help and nutrition. CHEER is celebrating its 50th anniversary with its Operation Christmas CHEER event, which was held in the CHEER Georgetown Community Center for the first time.
The Meals-On-Wheels initiative also helps bring presents, gift cards, and, according to CHEER CEO Ken Bock, smiles to the community.
"We're doing a record 289 individuals that we're serving, from people throughout the community who want to share the blessings of Christmas with the less fortunate," he said.
CHEER also has a CHEER-A-Pet program. Tinasha Showell, the Volunteer Services Director, says the program helps deliver pet food to families with dogs, cats, and birds across in Sussex County. they're accepting donations.
