SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Filling up the trucks and sending them off to the roads.
DelDOT South District Engineer Alastair Probert said crews were working Thursday to clean vehicles from Monday’s storm and get them ready for Friday.
"Some of the plows get damaged while we’re plowing so fixing that kind of stuff," Probert said. "Checking fluids. Making sure everything is fully operational, the equipment. Checking the salt inventories. Making sure we are ready to roll."
Brining will allow DelDOT to plow snow easier this time around, since it is not expected to stick to the roads as much.
Local stores like ACE Hardware in Lewes are keeping tabs on the supply of items like salt and snow shovels. Assistant Manager Bryon Bernhard says many people have needed them over the past week and supply levels are varying.
"So far so good with the salt we have a good supply of salt and I have more in the back so I’m good there," Bernhard said. "Snow shovels I’m starting to run out of the shovels but I should get another supply in Friday."
If you don’t have a shovel, you are going to want one for this second go around with the snow. Monday's remnants are a bit heavier because it turned to ice. It’s expected to be a lot fluffier this time around.
Some people and pets were able to enjoy Monday’s storm.
"Who doesn’t like the snow," Alec of Milton said. "The dogs like we have a puppy and she absolutely loves the snow and likes playing out in it. So it’s fun to get every once in a while."
While others admit they were unprepared for cleaning up.
"Just didn’t have salt last time," Christopher Willing of Milton said. "So when it snowed, I shoveled while it snowed so it wouldn't be as bad at the end but didn’t have salt so it froze. I wasn’t able to get anything up."
Looking ahead to the second round of snow, DelDOT has 8,800 tons of salt for Sussex County and about 80 plows will be working on the roads Friday.
