SUSSEX COUNTY, Del. -The Delaware Office of Highway Safety, in partnership with Delaware State Police and local law enforcement agencies, will conduct a driving under the influence checkpoint in Sussex County on Friday, July 10.
The checkpoint is part of the state's ongoing effort to reduce impaired driving and improve roadway safety during the busy summer travel season. Law enforcement officers will be looking for impaired drivers as well as other traffic safety violations.
The Office of Highway Safety reminded drivers that impairment is not limited to alcohol. Prescription medications, cannabis and other drugs also can affect judgment, coordination and reaction time, making it unsafe and illegal to drive while impaired.
According to the Office of Highway Safety, Delaware has recorded 416 confirmed impairment-related crashes so far in 2026. Additional crashes involving possible impairment remain under investigation.
Drivers whose plans include alcohol or other impairing substances are encouraged to designate a sober driver, use a rideshare service, call a taxi or arrange to stay where they are rather than drive while impaired.
The Office of Highway Safety did not announce the specific location of the Sussex County checkpoint.
