GEORGETOWN, Del. - The surviving family of a deadly house fire in Georgetown on Sept. 14 is seeking community support to navigate the aftermath, which includes the loss of their grandmother and baby.
Detective Michael Goins of the Georgetown Police Department shared that the family is currently dealing with insurance and funeral arrangements. He emphasized the community's role in supporting them: "We're one community. There's no reason that we can't come together and work as one team to help this family."
Mayor Bill West of Georgetown echoed this sentiment, urging the community to "try to give them a sense of security and a sense of being accepted by this community."
Nathan Bowers, who works across the street from the damaged house, recounted the day of the fire.
"It was a very, very rough day. It was very emotional, like all the emotions were flowing and everything like that just because being able to be there, like absolutely shock of everything coming out of the house and being carried away," he said.
Detective Goins is helping collect donations for the family.
"A lot of people had their heart in the right place, and they wanted to help, and we just kind of got involved so that it's just one entity that everybody coming together instead of six groups and the family having to deal with six different people," Detective Goins said.
