Tyler Gunter, Student Member of State Board of Education

DELAWARE — Gov. Matt Meyer has appointed Tyler Gunter, a senior at MOT Charter High School, to serve as the student member of the Delaware State Board of Education.

The student seat plays an advisory role, though they do not vote, and they help facilitate direct student involvement in statewide education policy. Gunter’s term will run through the end of the 2025–2026 school year.

"Tyler represents the very best of Delaware’s next generation of leaders,” said Governor Meyer. “When decisions are being made about students, students must be part of the conversation. Tyler’s record of leadership already shows a clear dedication to amplifying student voices, and he is exactly the kind of leader we need at the table.”

The board meets monthly to address education issues including graduation requirements, equity, and school accountability.

“The Delaware State Board of Education student member role has grown and evolved these last few years because the Board values student voice,” said Shawn Brittingham, President of the Delaware State Board of Education. “We welcome Tyler and look forward to hearing his perspective about public education in Delaware.”

According to the announcement, Gunter plays a role in a wide range of academic and extracurricular programs. He serves as the president of his school’s DECA chapter and is vice president of Delaware DECA. He also holds state-level positions with Business Professionals of America and has participated in YMCA Youth in Government since 2021, serving as Speaker of the House in 2025.
