OCEAN CITY, Md — Emergency crews responded Sunday afternoon after a kayaker issued a Mayday call on the VHF radio reporting trouble in Chincoteague Bay.

The call came in around 2:36 p.m., prompting Ocean City Fireboat 1 to respond after a request from the U.S. Coast Guard. Maryland Natural Resources Police and TowBoat USA also joined the search.

The overturned kayak was located, and responders confirmed the boater is safe.
