MILTON, Del. - The Town of Milton requests the Delaware Department of Transportation, or DelDOT, to install a foldable "Water on Roadway" sign on Cave Neck Road, a roadway maintained by DelDOT, near Front Street.
This initiative aims to empower town staff to better manage Front Street and Union Street traffic during flooding events.
Currently, when flooding affects those streets, drivers entering Milton from Cave Neck Road often encounter unexpected flooding, forcing them to find alternate routes. This situation poses significant challenges for larger vehicles, with limited space for turning around.
To address this, Milton also seeks a Right-of-Way Use Agreement with DelDOT, permitting the town to utilize the sign as needed on the state-controlled road.
Long-time Milton resident Deborah Hood emphasized the sign's potential benefits.
"With a sign being up there, a lot further before they get this far, that would be really convenient for everyone, you know, less traffic and less being lost," she said.
The Milton Town Council presented the resolution on Monday and unanimously agreed to move forward and pass it.
