SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- Ahead of a public hearing scheduled Sept. 28, people are urging for a new traffic impact study in the Twin Masts development area.

If approved, the Twin Masts subdivision would be comprised of 249 single-family lot. The properties are lying on the west side of Coastal Highway and on the north side of Round Pole Bridge Road.

Ginny Hysock has been fighting against the development since its proposal.

"We're talking about loading up this country road out front with cars all the time, waiting to turn left or right on Hudson Road. That's what's going to happen and it's going to end up being dangerous," Hysock said.

Hysock said a previous traffic study was conducted during the pandemic and is not an accurate representative of the traffic patterns in the area. She fears the development could be inconvenient and dangerous for people who live nearby.

"Additionally, Round Pole Bridge Road is not designed for use by the large of amount of traffic that will be generated by a community of the proposed size. It is a chip and tar farm road with no shoulders and many sharp curves, making it dangerous to travel during the corn-growing season," wrote in a letter to the editor in the Cape Gazette.

CoastTV reached out to Sussex County to ask about the possibility of an updated traffic study. A representative responded that no decision has been made on the current study or whether an updated document will be required.

The public hearing will be on Sept. 27 at 3 p.m. More information can be found here.
