DELAWARE- A new bill sponsored by Sen. Brian Pettyjohn (R-Georgetown) would prevent Delaware’s environmental agency from banning the sale of gas-powered cars, trucks and SUVs.
The bill would prohibit the Department of Natural Resources and Environmental Control from adopting rules that restrict the sale of fuel-powered vehicles. It would not change the current emissions standards those vehicles must meet.
The bill comes after Delaware Gov. Matt Meyer voiced his opposition to the Carney Administration’s electric vehicle mandate.
If approved, the bill would apply retroactively to March 1, 2023. It has been assigned to the Senate Environment, Energy & Transportation committee.
