Wilkerson trial begins Monday

SUSSEX COUNTY, Del.- In less than 48 hours, the fate of Randon Wilkerson, the man convicted of killing Delmar Corporal Keith Heacook, will be sealed as he faces sentencing.

Wilkerson was found guilty on all charges after his bench trial in October. His sentencing is scheduled scheduled for December 8th at 9 a.m. at the Sussex County Courthouse.

The charges against Wilkerson are extensive, ranging from first-degree murder to possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony. He is facing life in prison, as Delaware got rid of the death penalty in 2016. After Heacook's murder, a number of legislators have called for a return to capital punishment, specifically in instances where law enforcement officers or public safety officers are killed in the line of duty.

While an appeal is expected, prosecutors remain steadfast in their belief that justice has been served.
