SALISBURY, Md. - The City of Salisbury has amended the Comprehensive Plastic Bag Reduction Ordinance to exclude some purchases from the mandatory $0.10 fee charged for alternative bags.
In a press release from the Mayor's office, the city says, "We’ve listened to our local businesses — some of which already provided paper bags to customers at no cost — which were affected by the all-inclusive nature of the ordinance language."
According to the city, customers will not be charged the fee at checkout for paper bags. Further, the city says that food service facilities will not have to charge the $0.10 fee for packaged food.
Pharmacies who give patients prescription dugs will not have to charge for paper bags, as well as in instances when a paper bag is considered "an essential part of the packaging."
