MILFORD, Del.- The Food Bank of Delaware is seeking volunteers to help fight hunger across the state this summer.
The food bank is looking for volunteers to assist with numerous tasks. For example, the Food Bank of Delaware says that volunteers may be tasked with working in an assembly line to create meal boxes for seniors in Delaware. Another task could include putting together bags for children suffering from food insecurity during weekends. While no two days are the same, other tasks could include sorting food, assisting with the Newark farm or Milford garden, and helping in the Healthy Pantry Center, among other tasks.
The Food Bank of Delaware works to help food insecure Delawareans through numerous partner agencies. These partners include schools, shelter programs, food pantries and emergency soup kitchens to name a few.
The nonprofit stresses the importance of volunteers in their mission to feed those who suffer from food insecurity. According to their website, in Delaware there were 134,320 people that battled hunger. This includes 37,920 of whom were children. This equates to one in eight people facing hunger in the state of Delaware.
