REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - The City of Rehoboth Beach is still struggling with the new Rehoboth Beach Patrol and Comfort Station project. The project was originally put on hold when a code regarding the abandonment of Baltimore Avenue was brought to the city's attention. In fact, there is a possibility that the project might not happen at all.
"The Board of Commissioners could say lets just terminate the contract, put it on hold, look at it again for a future year, or just do nothing," explained Kevin Williams, Director of Public Works for Rehoboth Beach.
The project was originally supposed to begin after Labor Day. The City's original goal was for the bathroom part of the station to be ready for Summer 2024. Williams explained that now since the project has been delayed, that does not seem like a possibility.
"Now it's time to find a location for portable restrooms, and the cost associated with that is another thing we need to tackle," said Williams.
The conditions inside the current beach patrol station are very outdated and rundown. The city believes the beach patrol deserves better conditions, and that extra bathrooms are needed for the nation's summer capital.
