REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Royal Treat was a landmark in Rehoboth Beach for 42 years. The beloved restaurant closed its doors at the end of the summer 2022 season. The owners of the property, the Fasnacht Family, explained in a recent press release that the old building was beyond repair, and demolition was the only option.

David Mann, who is the President of the Board of the Commissioners for the Rehoboth Beach Historical Society, was a dedicated customer to Royal Treat for over 40 years. Going to Royal Treat was a way of life for Mann.

"It was mandatory to go there after dinner for ice cream every evening," explained Mann.

Karl Preate is another Rehoboth Beach local who is saddened by the loss of Royal Treat.

"Well Royal Treat, it's really a treat because they had the best breakfast anywhere in town." Preate continued, "The regulars had been coming there for generations, and they brought their kids, and those kids brought their kids."

Summer 2023 was the first summer without Royal Treat, and Mann explained it was missed by all.

"Its really hard to leave your friends behind because you've been going there every summer since 1980," said Mann.

When you walked into the doors of Royal Treat, you felt you were a part of a family. Relics from Royal treat were donated to the Rehoboth Beach Museum. The Museum hopes to unveil a Royal Treat exhibit sometime next year.

At this time, there are no plans for the property after is it torn down in early December. The Fasnacht Family assures the community they hope to put something new there for people to make new memories at.
