A backyard poultry flock in Kent County has tested presumptive positive for avian influenza, according to the Delaware Department of Agriculture.

Delaware’s poultry industry, a major pillar of the First State’s economy, could soon get a boost from new bipartisan legislation aimed at combating avian flu and protecting both farmers and consumers.

While the birds have not yet been tested, the DNR emphasized that the Highly Pathogenic Avian Influenza (HPAI) virus is common in wild bird populations.
