As Maryland's blue crab season begins on April 1, heightened conservation efforts aim to safeguard both blue crabs and diamondback terrapins. With increased enforcement by Natural Resources Police and a focus on compliance with crabbing laws, Maryland seeks to ensure sustainable practices while protecting its cherished marine species.

As Maryland’s blue crab season is set to open on April 1, the Natural Resources Police (NRP) is ramping up its efforts to ensure that recreational crabbers comply with the state’s conservation laws. 

DNREC  is preparing to open the Dupont Nature Center for the 2024 season on April 3.

According to DNREC during the spring, people on the Nature Center’s deck can see the  of spawning horseshoe crabs and migrating shorebirds, including federally listed threatened red knots that depend on horseshoe crab eggs to help fuel their 9,000-mile journey to the Arctic.
