Despite two failed tax referendums earlier this year, the Indian River School District will still be raising its school tax rate.

Millville’s proposed fiscal year 2026 budget is up for a vote Tuesday night, and it shows a modest increase in spending compared to the current year. 

New police officer starting salaries in Lewes have been increased to $75,000. According to Chief Thomas Spell, this went into effect on Oct. 14.

A proposed budget that is 0.62% under what was adopted for fiscal year 2024 is being reviewed Friday morning by Lewes Mayor Andrew Williams and the city council. Total expenses proposed are $11,993,385.00 compared to the $12,068,570.00 approved last year.

The Delaware House of Representatives and Senate approved a $5.6 billion operating budget as well as a $194.5 supplemental appropriation bill, but the votes were not unanimous— 11 lawmakers voted against them, and seven of that group are legislators representing districts in Sussex County.

Ocean City is becoming more of a year round destination and the town needs to catch up. The 2024 fiscal plan was release and Ocean City is focusing on funding for staffing. 

The Town Council in Ocean City voted to accept the voted upon rankings for the Capital Improvement Plan projects for the new fiscal year.
