The first state's storied Return Day brought crowds together in Georgetown on Thursday, blending music, food and local vendors for a community…
Sussex County residents gathered in Georgetown Thursday to mark Return Day, a Delaware tradition symbolizing unity after elections with a ceremonial “burying of the hatchet.”
This year’s version of the tradition will not see the usual large crowds and festivities. However, with much anticipation to find out a presidential election winner and a simmered down approach, the meaning behind it will still be prominent.
There will be no oxen roasting, or parading, or the usual crowds that line the streets. Instead, the two main festivities that the day is centered around will take place: the reading of the returns and the burying of the hatchet.
