Emmy Nomination

GEORGETOWN, Del. - A CoastTV feature highlighting one of Delaware’s most unique and historic traditions has been nominated for an Emmy Award. The story, which explores the centuries-old Return Day celebration, is a finalist in the "Chesapeake Heritage" category of the National Capital Chesapeake Bay Chapter of the Emmy Awards.

The nomination recognizes the work of Assistant News Director Madeleine Overturf and Director of News Photography Ted Corriero. Their feature, “A Look Back at Return Day: Delaware’s Unique Celebration of Unity,” dives into the roots and rituals of Return Day, a tradition held every two years in Georgetown following Election Day, where political rivals come together to literally bury the hatchet.

Return Day is cherished for its blend of community, civility and history. The Emmy-nominated segment captures everything from the ceremonial parade with horse-drawn carriages to the public reading of election results and the symbolic burying of the hatchet in sand. The full video is available to watch online here.

The CoastTV nomination comes alongside another nod for sister station WBOC, whose feature “Pinocchio’s Journey” was also recognized.

Winners of the Emmy Awards will be announced at the June 21 banquet in Rockville.
