In a move that goes against the trend for Sussex County, the Georgetown Town Council has officially approved an ordinance that will regulate the sale of recreational marijuana within town limits.

On Thursday, November 30th, at the Lewes Mayor and City Council workshop, city officials discussed possible regulations if marijuana is not banned from being sold, manufactured, or tested within city limits. Other coastal towns, like Rehoboth Beach, Bethany Beach, Fenwick Island, and Dewey Beach already have a ban in place.
More towns are restricting the sale of marijuana within their communities.
Rehoboth Beach and Bethany Beach passed approved similar ordinances today banning marijuana businesses like retail stores and manufacturing facilities.
South Bethany is in talks of banning the sale of marijuana within town limits.
Many people who spoke expressed that they feared selling marijuana in town would ruin Lewes's charm.
