A new whale "Slow Zone" has gone into effect after a buoy detected right whales east of Ocean City.
A voluntary speed restriction zone has been established off the coast of Ocean City after right whales were detected in the area on March 30.
Mariners near Ocean City are urged to reduce speeds and stay alert as multiple "Slow Zones" have been implemented following the detection of endangered North Atlantic right whales in the area.
A mariner is safe after getting rescued from a burning sailboat Thursday night. The Coast Guard says the 45-foot vessel was on fire nearly 60 miles east of Chincoteague.
Recovery operations continue at the Key Bridge site, with Unified Command leading efforts to remove containers from the Dali ship and clear the wreckage. As of Wednesday, efforts have focused on gaining access to the affected section of the bridge that currently rests atop the boat.
After more whales have been found east of Ocean City, a slow zone has been put in effect starting Feb. 7 and going through Feb. 22.
