Under its U.S. subsidiary, Skipjack Offshore Energy LLC, Danish-based power company Ørsted has purchased a 64-acre property near Harbeson for $5.2 million.
A lease sale for offshore wind energy development in the Central Atlantic was announced Friday by the Department of the Interior. Seventeen companies qualified to bid on specific areas off the coast of Delaware, Maryland and Virginia, which will be auctioned on Aug. 14 by the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management.
Danish offshore wind and renewable energy company Orsted released its 2023 annual report Wednesday, revealing it plans to reduce positions around the world as well as energy generation following a year of negative profits.
Though the town says it is not opposed to wind energy, it is raising concerns about views off its coast being impacted, titling a recent release "Save Our Sunrise." However, studies have shown the potential for both positive and neutral impacts of wind farms on areas with high rates of tourism, though they are inconclusive at this time.
It's important to note however that there is no site at the moment for an interconnection facility that would bring cables on shore.
Moore announced Friday that Orsted is enabling the development of Maryland's first offshore wind component center in Baltimore County, with some prefabrication on the Eastern Shore.
The potential wind farm and renovations to Fenwick Island State Park, off the coast of Southern Delaware was once again the center of attention today.
