Week In Review

It was a week of high heat, crime, and political intrigue along coastal Delmarva, this is your Week In Review: 

Monday: A man took his own life following a standoff in the Angola neighborhood. The incident began Sunday night in Dagsboro after a welfare check was requested for Jason Arnold, who had reportedly threatened to harm himself and his family. During the response, Arnold allegedly fired at officers while traveling to his home in Angola. The standoff ended with Arnold taking his own life. Authorities say the investigation is ongoing.

Tuesday: District 20 Representative Stell Parker Selby officially resigned from her position after missing the entire legislative session this year. Parker Selby suffered a stroke prior to the session’s start. Her resignation follows months of media attention and public concern. A special election is expected to be held to fill her seat.

Wednesday: High heat continued to cook the coast, with temperatures reaching 100 degrees and heat index values exceeding 120. Record-setting heat was reported along the coast on both Tuesday and Wednesday. The heat wave lasted nine consecutive days.

Thursday: Two men were arrested in connection with a shooting that occurred at a party near the Slaughter Beach Memorial Volunteer Fire Company. Nineteen-year-old Tyree Johnson and 22-year-old Tymere Harmon face multiple felony charges.

Friday: The Blood Bank of Delmarva issued an urgent call for donations ahead of the July 4 holiday weekend. The organization reports a 38% drop in blood donations across Delaware. The greatest need is for type O-negative and B-negative blood.
