SLAUGHTER BEACH, Del. - Two men are in custody and facing multiple felony charges following a June 12 shooting at a party near the Slaughter Beach Memorial Volunteer Fire Company that left one person hurt and police searching for additional suspects.
Delaware State Police have arrested 19-year-old Tyree Johnson of Harrington and 22-year-old Tymere Harmon of Dover after identifying them as two of the masked gunmen who allegedly opened fire on a crowd gathered at a pavilion near 359 Bay Avenue.
Police said the shooting occurred around 7:14 p.m., when multiple suspects wearing black clothing and ski masks began firing at partygoers. A 32-year-old man from Dover was hit in the lower body while trying to escape and was taken to the hospital, where he was treated and released.
Investigators later identified the getaway car as a light-colored Honda Accord. Harmon was arrested during a June 20 traffic stop in Dover while driving the Honda. He was taken into custody without incident.
On June 25, members of the Kent County Governor’s Task Force spotted Johnson in Harrington. When officers attempted to arrest him, Johnson ran, tossing a black satchel that was later found to contain a loaded Glock 17, extended magazine and ammunition. He was eventually taken into custody after exiting a building he had run into.
Johnson was charged with multiple offenses, including first-degree assault, 10 counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, nine counts of first-degree reckless endangering, and two counts of carrying a concealed firearm. He was committed to Sussex Correctional Institution on a $598,100 cash bond.
