We have finally made it to spring here along the coast. If you've been busy or if you have missed a story or two this week CoastTV has you covered, here is your Week In Review:
Monday:
Direct Action Everywhere, an animal rights organization from California, organized a protest on Delmarva aimed at ending animal agriculture — including the breeding, raising, and slaughter of animals for human use. Despite the promotion of the event, fewer than five people attended the protest on Tuesday.
Tuesday:
Coast TV has been attempting to get an update on Delaware State Representative Stell Parker Selby, who has not been sworn in this session and is missing votes due to a health issue. Details about her condition and an estimated return date have not been disclosed.
Wednesday:
Tyler Mailloux, the man accused in the hit-and-run death of 14-year-old Gavin Knupp, was sentenced to 10 years in prison. However, all but 18 months of the sentence was suspended, meaning Mailloux will serve only a year and a half behind bars. The state had recommended a sentence of nearly four years.
Thursday:
Following recent changes to short-term rental rules in Ocean City, which now mandate a minimum five-day stay and impose a moratorium on short-term rental licenses, some locals are gathering signatures to force the issue to a referendum. If successful, the referendum would allow voters to decide whether to repeal the new rules.
Friday:
Milton officials are exploring ways to increase affordable housing in the area. A local resident stated that there is currently no affordable housing available. The town’s Affordable Housing Committee aims to collaborate with developers to find solutions.
