SNOW HILL, Md. - Tyler Mailloux is sentenced to ten years with all but 18 months suspended. This is a result of the hit-and-run that killed 14-year-old Gavin Knupp in 2022.

On Wednesday, a Worcester County Circuit Court Judge Brett W. Wilson sentenced the 24-year-old. After those 18 months active jail time, he will serve three years probation. It was about a month ago that Mailloux pleaded guilty to a felony charge.

Judge Wilson handed down Mailloux's sentence after nearly a three hour-long hearing. Mailloux will have to serve 400 hours of community service within the first year of his release, according to the judge.

Knupp was killed in the hit-and-run on July 11, 2022, while walking. Mailloux was originally charged with 17 traffic charges in May 2023 relating to the crash including failure to immediately stop a vehicle at the scene of an accident involving bodily injury, failure to remain at the scene of an accident, and failure to report to police.
