The man who helped start the cross country program at Sussex Tech in the 1990's lost his battle to brain cancer last week. Louis Richard Nicoletti died at age 70 on Thursday April 9 at Harbor Healthcare and Rehabilitation Center in Lewes. He was affectionately known as "Coach Nic." Prior to his time at Sussex Tech, Nicoletti was the head cross country at Delcastle and led that program to the 1988 state championship. While coaching the Ravens, both the boys and girls teams regularly finished in the top ten in the state championship meets. He retired from Sussex Tech at the completion of the 2017-18 school year. In March 2019 a number of his former runners held the
Race For Coach Nic 5kto honor his legacy and contribution to running programs across Delaware for over 40 years. The 2020 event was scheduled for March 28. It had to be canceled when the State of Emergency went into effect. At the inaugural 2019 event, Nicoletti's daughter Isabella started the race with one of his favorite quotes, "Run fast, don't come in last."
