MARYLAND - The Maryland Department of Transportation State Highway Administration says they have completed a $5.2 million project to repair and improve two bridges over the Wicomico River in Salisbury.
The work included repairs to the U.S. 50 Business, also known as Salisbury Parkway, and Main Street. The project began in July.
Crews installed new concrete-filled pipe pile dolphins and vertical timber fender boards, along with new wire bands around existing timber dolphins, according to the department.
The department says the project also included underwater epoxy crack injection repairs to abutment walls, underwater concrete abutment rehabilitation and repairs to portions of the abutment walls that had been undermined.
Specialty Underwater Services LLC of Baltimore performed the work on both bridge structures.
The State Highway Administration said the upgrades are intended to maintain and improve the bridges for the future.
The agency reminded drivers to stay alert in work zones, follow reduced speed limits and be aware of changing traffic patterns. Drivers are also required to slow down and move over in work zones.
