SUSSEX COUNTY, Del -U.S. Senator Lisa Blunt Rochester (D) visited the future site of Chapel Branch Apartments on Thursday, touring the under-construction development and receiving a detailed briefing on its progress. The project off of Dorman Road is southwest of Lewes and is funded with state and federal dollars.

“Delaware has a housing shortage at every income level, and we are in need of more success stories like Chapel Branch in the First State,” said Blunt Rochester, who serves on the Senate Banking, Housing, and Urban Affairs Committee. “Chapel Branch will increase our housing options in our state while providing safe homes for many Delawareans.”

The 42-unit apartment complex will include a mix of affordable and market-rate housing, with 24 two-bedroom units and 18 three-bedroom units. Rents will range from $458 to $1,850. The development will also include a community service center and free wrap-around services for people who live there.

Chapel Branch was awarded $1 million in federal funding through the American Rescue Plan Act. According to Blunt Rochester, no new affordable housing developments have been built in the eastern part of Sussex County since 2003.

At the December 12, 2024 groundbreaking, the Delaware State Housing Authority said it expects construction to be completed by end of this year.
