Alonna Berry campaign kick off

Delaware’s 20th Representative District Democratic nominee Alonna Berry launched her campaign for the special election in Delaware’s 20th Representative District on Saturday with a rally at Milton Memorial Park.

MILTON, Del. - Democratic nominee Alonna Berry launched her campaign for the special election in Delaware’s 20th Representative District on Saturday with a rally at Milton Memorial Park.

Alonna Berry will face Republican candidate Nikki Miller for the seat, which is vacant following the resignation of former Rep. Stell Parker Selby, who missed every single day of the legislative session due to ongoing health issues.

Supporters at the rally gathered alongside elected officials, including Congresswoman Sarah McBride and Delaware House Speaker Melissa Minor-Brown, to mark the official start of Berry’s campaign. Following the rally, volunteers canvassed neighborhoods and made phone calls to mobilize voters across the district.

Berry has held roles in state government and the nonprofit sector, including work in the office of former Governor John Carney, where she led trauma-informed care initiatives. She currently serves as executive director of the Delaware Center for Justice and founded the Bryan Allen Stevenson School of Excellence. Her work has focused on education, criminal justice reform and community-based programs.

According to Berry, the reasons why she's better fit to serve the district over Miller are plain and simple.

"I have experience, in government and from Dover, and I think, regardless of party or seat, that's what the state needs right now, given what we're going to have to face in the coming years based on what's happening federally and what's happening here locally," said Berry. "We're jumping in the middle of a legislative session, and I think we need somebody who can jump in and be helpful."

Berry said the rally left her feeling excited and energized.

"We've had so much support from the community. And from the party, from the larger state, elected officials. And we're ready to hit the ground running," said Berry.

According to Berry's website, early voting is available at the following dates and times:

  • July 24th – 26th, 7 a.m. – 7 p.m.
