WORCESTER COUNTY, Md. - Artists will take to the outdoors this September to capture Worcester County’s landscapes and communities as part of the Worcester County Arts Council’s 50th anniversary celebration.
The council says Paint Worcester County Plein Air will run Sept. 13-18, bringing artists together to create paintings inspired by local coastal views, farmland, waterways, historic areas and other landmarks.
The event is part of the Arts Council’s 50th anniversary celebration, marking five decades of supporting the local arts community.
Local artist Laura Jenkins will serve as this year’s juror. According to the council, Jenkins has previously participated in the plein air competition and will judge the works created during the event.
The council says Jenkins is also sponsoring a $500 Golden Anniversary Artists’ Choice Award. The award will be selected by participating artists rather than by the event’s juror.
The week will conclude Sept. 18 at the Worcester County Arts Council Gallery in Berlin. Awards will be presented at 1 p.m., followed by a public reception, exhibition and art sale from 2 to 6 p.m.
The public can attend the reception, says the council, meet participating artists and view or purchase paintings created during the week.
