BERLIN, Md. - The Town of Berlin will be replacing all of the water meters within town limits with new radio-smart meters. This tech upgrade will allow the new meters to send radio signals back to the Berlin computer system.
According to the town, the upgrade will lead to more accurate billing and alert the town when they need to send out crews to tackle problems within the system.
Installations will begin in the next couple of weeks. Replacements usually take less than one half-hour. Customers may not be able to use their water during the installation process. Once your water is running again, the town suggests running your water for 5 to 10 minutes in order to flush the system of any sediment or discoloration in the line.
Along with the meters themselves some meter boxes may have to be replaced if they are old or damaged. The Town of Berlin also notes that they may have to move or even remove mulch, bushes, or other vegetation in the area of the meter.Â
