MILTON, Del. - The Blood Bank of Delmarva will host its fifth annual “Blood for a Brew” campaign on May 20 at Dogfish Head Brewery in Milton. The event runs from noon to 6 p.m., and donors will receive a free t-shirt.
The Blood Bank of Delmarva partners with local Delaware breweries and coffee shops to offer incentives to those who donate blood during the critical summer months. According to the Blood Bank of Delmarva, summer is typically a challenging time for blood collection due to school breaks, vacations, and holiday travel.
This year, 19 businesses are participating — more than double the number in the campaign’s first year.

According to the Blood Bank, the need for blood increases in warmer months, often referred to as “trauma season,” when emergency room visits tend to rise. Blood and platelet donations help patients including accident victims, cancer patients, and newborns.
