This marks the first step toward construction of The One Rehoboth Avenue Hotel, a new hotel that will span from Baltimore Avenue to Rehoboth Avenue. Local reaction has been mixed, though some residents remain optimistic.

Kathleen Gatley told CoastTV, "It’s not the ideal time to start, but once it’s done, it’ll be another great place for people to stay."

Due to city regulations, demolition must pause beginning May 15, when Rehoboth Beach's seasonal construction ban goes into effect. Work is expected to resume in September, once the restriction is lifted.
