Delaware - In a thrilling display of skill and determination, the Cape Henlopen Vikings Field Hockey team emerged victorious, claiming the 2023 Delaware Interscholastic Athletic Association (DIAA) Division I State Championship with a narrow 1-0 triumph over Smyrna.
The championship game, held Saturday at Rullo Stadium at the University of Delaware, showcased the excellence and sportsmanship of both teams. The win was extra sweet for Cape, who were state champs in 2021 but bested by Smyrna in the title game in 2022. Cape re-claimed the title after Senior Grace Wiggins scored the only goal of this year's game.
The ladies came home to Cape with fanfare, including escorts from local fire trucks and outpourings of support on social media.
