Carltons clothing store on Rehoboth Avenue to close after 63 years

Carltons clothing store on Rehoboth Avenue to close after 63 years.

REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. - Clothing store, Carltons, is set to close on Rehoboth Avenue after 63 years of business. Owners Trey and Marcia Kraus announced the store will officially be closed early-December.

The store was founded in 1960 by Harry Derrickson, but was purchased by the Kraus' in 2005. While the Kraus' said Rehoboth will continue to be their home, the hurdles to stay after the renovation would be too much.

"We want to thank all of our wonderful customers and awesome employees from all over the world, who made Carltons an iconic fixture in the Rehoboth Beach community," said the Kraus'. "We are also grateful to our landlord, sales reps, vendors, and service partners who have made it easy to provide amazing apparel and service consistently through those 63 years"

The owners said that despite closing, this year has been the best in their history. They are looking for buyers for the existing business but have been unsuccessful.

"It takes a team of uniquely experienced individuals to run a specialized retail store like Carltons," said the Kraus'. "We are still looking, as we have not given up hope for carrying on the legacy of Carltons."

The store is currently undergoing renovations but will reopen for a clearance sale beginning Oct. 6 and will end when all of the product is gone.

The owners encourage people with gift certificates and store credits to use them before the store closes.
