REHOBOTH BEACH, Del. — Rehoboth Beach Elementary students are taking part in a competition to design a mascot for the Rehoboth Beach Public Library.

The contest invites all students in kindergarten through fifth grade to submit original mascot designs inspired by the beach, ocean or bays. The library says the mascot can be a real animal, like a horseshoe crab or fish, or something imaginary, such as a mermaid.

A panel of judges from the Rehoboth Art League will select two winners from each grade level, creating a pool of 12 finalists. These entries will then go through a final round of review by the library's own team, which will select the official mascot.

All 12 finalists will be celebrated with a photo opportunity in the school lobby and a special book hand-picked by library staff. The contest will culminate in an evening celebration hosted by the library, honoring all the finalists and the overall winner.

The event also supports the National Summer Reading Program’s 2025 theme, “Color Our World,” which focuses on creativity through art, music and science. Entries are due by May 16 and the winner will be announced on June 5 at 6 p.m.
